Generation of Idiots

The age of social media

With gratification  immediate

Consequences for actions

Do not exist with satisfaction

Children raised addicted

Screen face afflicted

Decency and respect

No longer a prerequisite

That parents instil

Instead their childs’ will

Is all that is catered to

Narcissism rules the day

How many likes did I get

And what did people say

Shallow and self-centred

Is the new generation tech head

Who I am

I want to be no-one

Other than who I am

I am proud to be someone

Who rises to make a stand

I will not  compromise

On matters of the truth

I refuse to sit idly by

While, to others, there is no use

I have no strings attached to me

No-one behind the scenes

I will not be told who to be

By those who refuse to see

I can hold my head high

With my conscience clear

I can take courage and prepare to fight

Because I know what I am doing is right

Fueling my Fire

Know this:

Before attacking me personally

I accept and appreciate constructive criticism

But if you choose to contest rationality

Slandering me for your own egotistical reasons

I should make you aware I’ve been there before

There’s really nothing anyone could say

That will surprise or shock anymore

You are but a very small grey cloud in my day

That fleetingly comes and then  goes away

Because for that moment your true colours show

Shining a spotlight for all to know

That the self criticism I afford to myself

Is not so readily accepted in everybody else

But I am the master of my own destiny

And the abuse you seek to vindicate only fuels me

stay strong

Belonging

A sense of belonging
Is essential
To a persons well-being
It is something
I did not feel
Most of my life
So now that it is real
I must acknowledge
Those that have helped
Me in my healing
My life now has
Much more meaning
The knowledge gained
And knowledge shared
The connection felt
Of genuine respect and care
Those that relate
To the same struggle
Have given me the strength
To know finally…..
 I do belong

The Glorified ‘Lucky Country’

Let’s talk about life and liberty

In this so-called ‘lucky country’

Adult Indigenous make up 2% of the population

Yet at 28%; face the highest rate of incarceration*

The role of power and social control

Media painting a picture of demonised souls

Yet where did the destruction of an ancient culture begin

Right from the start; from invading and pillaging

A history based on brutality and human rights violations

Instead presented as a glorified part of this nation

So many different eras with just one intention

A genocide so evil;  the sole objective; annihilation

So think for yourselves, before you fall for the portrayal

Of a twisted one sided story of public betrayal

It’s evidently clear who are the perpatrators here

While the real victims languish in jail

Australians are NOT all Young and Free

We need to invest more

In our next generation

The future leaders

Of this nation

The current system is failing

A lack of respectful engaging

Encouraging every child

Is unique and absolutely vital

Teaching should require great passion

It should be a interesting interaction

A great teacher can make even the mundane

Seem fascinating- instead of plain

Promoting a fairer understanding

To develop an individuals critical thinking

We need our children to question everything

Instead of too many following anything

There needs to be a sense of pride

Instead of a curriculum that constantly denies

Our rightful place to grow and thrive

Here’s a start…….

Stop demanding children recite

An anthem  created only for whites

Australians are not all young and free

Just look at all the disparities

The ‘white australia’ notions of yesterday

Still practised unashamedly every day

A country that is truly inclusive

Does not cling to a prejudiced illusion

Breaking Stigmas

Skeletons in the closet

Everybody’s got them

But there’s no secret worth keeping

If it damages your very being

Too many live with shame

Knowing too well; they may be blamed

For speaking up about what’s wrong

That’s why a secret, is sometimes kept so long

For some the burden is too much to bear

They end their lives; so they don’t have to share

A trauma that replays in their mind

Time after time after time after time

But it doesn’t have to be this way

In solidarity stigmas can be broken each day

Because a country can never truly be free

If we pick and choose only what we want to see

So join to help others rise from their pain

We’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain

Meaningful Interactions

Ask yourself?

When’s the last time

You had a meaningful interaction

An open and engaging human conversation

Are you genuinely interested in others

Or only furthering your own endeavours

Ask yourself

Do you see other peoples troubles

And think of them only as hassles

Is your own life only about you

Or do you genuinely care for others too

Ask yourself

Do you see an opportunity; for what it’s worth

To empower others- or think only of yourself first

Are you one of the growing many

That are employed to do nothing

But still ‘earn’ money

Ask yourself

Are you someone that likes to be heard

But thinks actively listening to others is absurd

So many narcissistic tendencies

Coexisting with sociopathic propensities

Now rife and multiplying in society

Too many feeling such little moral obligation

Does not make a strong foundation

For a healthy and inclusive nation

Ever Heard of the ‘Unmothered Child?’

Have you ever heard of ‘the unmothered child’?

The unmothered child has not been nurtured

Not given the comfort that every child deserves

To simply give a child life is not enough

A child must feel protected and know trust

To be an unmothered child

Is a result of a damaging environment

Where a child is not truly cared for

They cannot thrive and do not grow

Past interactions hold them back; and so

The unmothered child

Goes through life questioning

And constantly battling

To know what it’s like for a person

To really accept and love another

Because the unmothered child

Did not experience this

From  their own mother

abandonment

Militarised PTSD Misconception

People need to stop stigmatising
And pigeon holing mental illnesses
Really empathetically start realising
That it affects all kinds of us

For I’m not a soldier
But I’ve experienced trauma
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Developed because of exposure
That took away my childhood
In a brutal environment that was no good

Just because you can’t see
The anguish that lives inside of me
Doesn’t make it any less
Than a physical disability
When will wider society see?
That what gets replayed in the head
Is as disabling and real as it gets
